Piel Frama Leather Case designed specifically for the XDA Atom.  Read the full review on this magnificent accessory to protect your investment.

Piel Frama®, makers of high quality leather cases, have sent me a black case for my XDA Atom to review.

The Piel Frama Case has the following features:

  • Two Mini SD Card Pockets
  • Money Pouch
  • Soft Leather Lining to protect the Atom Casing
  • Cut-outs for all buttons and the Status LED
  • Cut-outs for easy access to the Reset hole and Mini USB Connector
  • Removable and rotating Belt Clip
  • Removable Belt Clip Button

This case is hand crafted from the finest Italian leather, and is just perfect in both size and fit.  The front protecting flap, which houses the money and SD Card pouches, is both light and yet very firm, offering very good protection for the sensitive Pocket PC screen.  A simple press stud holds the flap closed.  With the flap open, it can be clipped into position backwards, forming a strap that can be worn on the hand like a glove.  The flap can also be moved further out of the way to clear the camera lens for those spur of the moment photo's.

The included belt clip felt nice and secure, and is a huge improvement on the design that came with my O2 XDA II.  The clip is worth a mention as on the first day of use I managed to break it.  I had to quickly climb out of our work truck to attend to an urgent matter, and the case and clip caught behind the seat belt as I got out.  This resulted in the clip separating into halves and springing off into the bush.  Upon closer inspection, the only part that failed was where the only screw held the two halves together.  The four plastic clips also holding the unit together were fine.  A simple fix would be to separate the clip, apply some super glue or 5 minute araldite to glue the halves together, and screw it back together again.  Piel Frama were disappointed in my first day experience, so have sent me another clip as a replacement.  As such, I don't have the clip to take a picture of.  There are plenty of good pictures on their web site for those who are interested.

Below are some more pictures of this very well made case...

I have passed on my recommendations to Piel Frama concerning the belt clip, but because the main part is the leather case, I have deducted 0.5 points for the clip.

This is by far the best made leather case I have seen, and I feel confident my XDA Atom will be safe inside it.  The quality of the leather and stitching was above my expectations.  If you are looking for an excellent leather case for your new XDA Atom, or any other Pocket PC you may own, visit the Piel Frama® website.

Piel Frama XDA Atom Leather Case Scores an Excellent 9.5/10
