Matt M reports that the MPx200 has disappeared from the Motorola Australia website .. or not ...

Motorola MPx200 - relegated to a

We reported a couple of weeks ago that the Motorola MPx200 had surfaced on the Motorola Australia website. Things looked rosy, even if the damn thing does still run Smartphone 2002, until I noticed today that it had disappeared from their lineup!

A little bit of hunting around located it again - here, on the "Future Models" list. So now it's looking like either Moto Australia jumped the gun on listing the phone (which is odd, given that there was a review in The Age), or perhaps they just can't deliver units at this time.

Here's another possible theory. Maybe they've decided to delay it for a Windows Mobile 2003 update? This article at Mobile Gadget News suggests that might happen, although it's a long shot.

In any case, it looks like we'll be waiting for a while longer to see any Motorola built Windows devices in Australia. Is Australia a 3rd world country, gadget wise? It's really starting to look that way! The Windows Mobile 2003 based MPx Pocket PC Phone and MPx100 Smartphone have been announced this week, and Australia has yet to see the Smartphone 2002 based MPx200.

Things are looking pretty bad for Australia in this regard. We're still stuck with HTC built Windows Mobile devices as the only device on the market, and I'm afraid that (for the moment at least) there's no end in sight.
