Following on from our previous story of a German language update, forum user RobinHood over at XDA Developers has reported that the first updated UK (English language) ROM for the O2 XDA II Pocket PC Phone - which will include updates to Bluetooth and the inclusion of a Blackberry client - will be available from Friday, 2nd April. His source is direct from O2, so it looks hopeful that it will happen.
This is the update which might just tempt me to upgrade my XDA in advance of O2 Asia's release .. although at the momentum things are happening, it may be that Asia is not far behind!
Updates have previously been released for the Carrier Devices i-mate Pocket PC Phone, which is based on the same HTC Himalaya hardware. However, it seems that O2 have been beta testing a newer version of the ROM for some time, as well as adding new features such as RIM Blackberry functionality.
Although it would have been nice to have bugs fixed sooner, I'm sure many will be prepared to forgive the delay if the ROM proves to be sturdy, reliable, and add new functionality!
Blackberry ... Java ... Bluetooth fixes ... If it has all 3 - even if Bluetooth isn't fully fixed - I'm sure many owners of the phone, including myself, will be pretty happy! Nice to have would be a fully rectified Bluetooth stack, but at this stage I suspect this may not appear until the next update...
