Hard drive woes lead to loss of posts

Matt reports a small problem that occurred yesterday ...

Well, here's a bit of bad news for those weekend posters here at MTekk.

Last night, site admin, moderator, and all-round nice guy Mike (mtb) brought a serious performance problem with the site to my attention. I duly investigated, and found that a secondary hard drive had actually failed.

This hard drive was primarily responsible for hosting the MTekk database files. In investigating, the drive had failed altogether but the site had continued to accept posts for some time afterward which compounded the end result of posts being lost.

The failure of the hard drive itself was not too great a problem, as it was possible to reinstall affected software and restore back to that morning's database backup, and nothing much else was affected.

Unfortunately this did mean that all posts made yesterday before the problem was resolved were lost.

As a result of the work done, we are back up and running on all cylinders again. I'm voting Mike a massive thankyou for acting in a timely fashion so that more problems didn't arise!

We apologise to all users whose posts were lost as a result of this, and we hope you'll understand!
