My wife loves the new game Sudoku - the numeric grid puzzle that you'll find in most newspapers these days. I could almost say she's addicted to it, which is wierd for someone who is not into maths in the least!
As a surprise for her, and to try to get her to accept that my Xda II is both her friend and a valued member of our family, I've been hunting round for a decent PPC version of the game - I found an excellent one (Pocket Sudoku) at the ClickGamer game site, a place I've bought a couple of games from before and therefore a site I trust.
The site has recently undergone some changes, apparently, most significantly they now have a new purchase method available (ClickPayGo) which permits customers to purchase games quickly and conveniently using a pre-pay system, and which records the purchase details and unlock codes for future use if necessary.
To cut a long story short, I had issues with my purchase due to an apparent failure of the site to support Opera and my unwillingness to use a pre-pay system for infrequent purchases. After have gone through the trouble of registering, I ended up reluctantly using Internet Exploiter to make my purchase via the normal credit card mechanism - I made my concerns and disappointment known to ClickGamer earlier today via their feedback form.
ClickGamer is based in the U.K. so I was rather interested to see a response come in this very evening at what must have been lunch time over there. The response was quite simply excellent. In an obviously personal mail (not a scripted one) the staff member explained that the ClickPayGo mechanism is very new and still under review, they would therefore consider my comments when reviewing it in the near future.
They also made an immediate fix to the site which permitted Opera to work correctly and asked if I would be kind enough to test it, which I was happy to do for them. I was then able to view the various details of all my previous game purchases which had now been loaded automatically into it via my e-mail address.
Finally, the staff made the extremely kind, unexpected and, frankly, unnecessary gesture of offering me a free game to compensate me for my trouble. "What trouble?" I thought - sure, it was a minor inconvenience but their speedy and effective response had already mitigated that. I nonetheless kindly accepted their generous offer of a game which I'm sure will keep my son entertained - Pocket Slurpy.
So there you have it - customer service at its best! Sadly, these days, even going into a physical store in person doesn't guarentee you service of this quality. So if you're looking for games for your PPC (or Palm or Smartphone or S60/S80/S90/UIQ or ...) you would do well to take a look at ClickGamer, not only do they treat you properly, they have a damned good selection of games too!
