It's that time of year again, and what better time - on the back of several site updates - to wish all of our visitors, friends, family, and well-wishers a very Merry Christmas. Of course, you might not observe that particular holiday, but at the very least we hope that you'll accept our sincerest season's greetings.
This year has been an unusual one for the site, and nothing indicated that better than a defacement in February that led us to accelerate plans to migrate to new software. It took a week's downtime and a lot of late nights, but we finally said goodbye to the old Acuity and phpBB combination.
Unfortunately this was another year when my availability was limited at best, and it wasn't long at all before the site was left (by me) to its own devices. It was a difficult year for me, and my best efforts couldn't get me back onto the site often enough, and it took a major change - leaving my old job - to make it possible for me to spend time on the site again. I've yet to have time to do news, reviews, or even contribute significantly in the forums - but the recent and substantial site updates occurred as a result of being able to pay attention to important site issues. Hopefully we've now cured some of the more long-standing site quirks.
Yet again, the site could not have continued to work without our dedicated team of volunteer moderators and some equally dedicated users. Thanks as always go to Mike, Dave, Fred, Kevin, Arnold, Dan, and those who we've not seen in a while - Kevin L, Jackie, and Noel. I'd list the users too, but the Internet is a bunch of tubes, and they get clogged ... thanks though - you know who you are.
As always, we hope that next year will see the site expand into bigger and better territory - but if at the very least we provide our community with a place that they enjoy and feel comfortable, we'll have achieved our goals.
Again, all the best for the festive season, and we hope you and your family will have a safe and happy time - and we'll see you in 2007. |
