Hi everyone,
I have the Australian version of the TOMTOM One 3rd Edition which has 500mb of fixed internal memory (no SD card). I will be taking a trip to Europe later this year and would like to store the appropriate maps on the device.
Now, the entire Western Europe map at 800mb or so will not fit on the device. I was wondering though, if I were to purchase it, could I store individual country maps on the device? I only need France, Switzerland and Germany. Is the Western Europe map broken up by country i.e. can you select which countries you wish to store on the device using TOMTOM Home?
Thank you very much

No. It is a map data set and not a series of individual maps for each country. Go to TT and look at the available maps for download. You can download some individual countries maps (or various combinations), but would have to purchase each map (up to $149 each), then 'Switch' between maps. All up though the total of the downloads plus the Navcore (operating system) and any extra voices you have will be limited by that internal memory ...... hence the advantage of a unit with an SD card slot. |

Thank you! I checked the cost of including one with a car rental - at 13 EUR a day, not worth it! I might then just buy a unit with a Western Europe map from the outset. Can you get such devices in Australia?

You could probably buy one online and get it posted over here - or you could just buy one when you get there, which would be a lot easier.
Ironically, if you'd bought an earlier Tomtom ONE (v1 or v2) you would have an SD card slot and you could put a 2Gb card in it. I have said before that the supposed "update" to hard-wired memory was actually a downgrade and I was shouted down... |

klaw81 is right. TT didn't do their customers any favours releasing internal memory models without an expansion slot. My old TT1v.1 happily runs a 4Gb SD card and can accommodate AUS maps plus various other 3rd party software, voices and maps. If you do buy from overseas, just be careful. There are a lot of refurbished units out there (some offering 12 months factory warranty), so you should double check with TT Australia that the warranty will be honoured. |
