Curly one for you all...
I have an NTFS external USB hard drive which currently has a few issues but, as it is rather large (2 terabytes), I can't just copy and format as I would a smaller device.
The thing is, when I try to fix it on my son's Windows box, it wants exclusive access so want to schedule the fix for the next boot... except that the disk, being USB, won't be mounted at that stage of the boot cycle.
I'm going to try to fix it via Linux but this has me stumped, how could I do this under 'doze?!?! |

Psion II CM -> Psion II XP -> Psion II LZ -> Psion 3 -> Psion 5 -> O2 Xda II -> O2 Xda IIi -> Psion 5 -> O2 Xda II + Nokia 3310 -> Dell Inspiron 9400 running Ubuntu + Nokia 6234 (no more Windows Mobile for me!)
My new device is Linux based and it doesn't include a camera, a phone or an MS operating system! Oh, and I also have a Topfield PVRt, a TomTom ONE and a Wii - all of which also use nice, stable Linux... luxury! |

| Ah... never mind, too used to GUI Windows. Once I had my command line brain enabled I simply checked the command line version of chkdsk and used the /x switch which forces a dismount first.
Sweeeeeet...! |

Games that I have yet to install successfully under Wine. Mind you, it is only a W2K box and does dual boot with Linux, he also uses Opera and Open Office.
Did you see about the hackathon between Vista, OS X and Ubuntu - Ubuntu was the only one standing at the end! Check The Reg for further details. |

Mike - I knew it would be games. They kind of have that sewn up a bit by virtue of there huge following. (notice I avoided the use of the "M" word) Actually I have been following the hackathon - last I read was that the Mac (the first to go down) and the PC with Vista both got hacked via a fault in Adobe flash player. Of course that doesn't really absolve either of them and Flash is probably installed on 80% of computers for that (sarcasm on) exhilarating web experience (sarcasm off). But it is interesting nevertheless. I'd like to see it again with nothing but the OS installed - the big surprise to many (not me) was the Mac. Keep up the great spin Mr Jobs! |
