I had a quick play with an 8502 in a Brisbane Telstra shop today - in comparison to my Tytn II it is decidedly lighter & thinner, but substantially longer as well. Looks very sleek and business-like, and has an air of quality about it. I can see people with chunky fingers struggling with the very small QWERTY keyboard. Unfortunately the battery was dead so my observations were cut very short....apparently they will start showing up in more stores this week some time as stocks roll out.

Bpratt, I use my Tytn II on Telstra NextG and have found reception and general useability very good. I can also confirm the device is SDHC compatible. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the some Jasjam mounts work with the Tytn II (they have the same HTC miniUSB port in the same place so electronically they are fine) but the dimensions are sufficiently different that using a Jasjam mount is not recommended - you may end up putting a lot of pressure on the port and doing some damage to both the mount and device. Unfortunately I also have to agree with the criticisms of the Tytn II video capabilities - it really doesn't handle video well with the current drivers, although there are a lot of hackers out there having a go at changing that.

Interesting comments.

I went out yesterday to check out the 8502 and 9502, and just hate the keyboards on them.... way too tiny keys for me to get used to, hence TyTN II is looking better for me.

I don't suppose if anyone knows of a shop in the South of Brisbane has any TyTN II's in stock so I can judge for myself if my System 8 mount works okay with it ???

I like the idea that there are people working on better drivers for the video though.

Well you're right, the TyTN II does not fit the Bury System 8 cradle that my JasJam fits in to.

The issue as I see it is that the usb socket sits about 1.5mm closer to the back edge of the phone, and not something you'd like to force to make fit.

Anyway, just did a search on the net for a good price on buying one, and found :-

http://www.redsgadgets.com/store/product.php?productid=25248&cat=56&page=1

Reds Gadgets for $852.46

http://becextech.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=108

Becextech for $890.99  but comes with TomTom software

I got those sites from http://www.myshopping.com.au/PR--211299_HTC_TYTN_II_PDA_Phone
and also http://www.shopferret.com.au/buy/pdas~p-2008503.html

What I'm really asking is which of those etailers should I stay clear of ..... PM me if you prefer.

Thanks for your guidance.

I honestly don't know anything about either of those retailers, so I'm not sure I can help. I bought mine from Hong Kong since the wait for local stores to stock them was too long - my old phone was dying and I needed a replacement. Of course, buying offshore has it's own set of problems...the software suite on CD is different, and the warranty is a little shakier I guess, but I upgraded the ROM on mine and now I have all the stuff I wanted.

We'd better not get this thread off track too far....back to the Ultimate 8502.

Sort of related but I just replaced my VERY aging XDA II with the iMate Ultimate 9502 (I don't plan to use the physical keyboard anyway so I'm happy for it to be out of the way).

One question tho - is anyone having any problems with their WiFi on these devices - I can connect to my 802.11b/g AP using a WPA-PSK but it appears to randomly disconnect and reconnect quite often (NB: I DIDN'T install the SDHC patch and I'm only using a 2GB MicroSD card).
