Please be careful with it. Making a backup is always a good idea but if something go wrong in flashing, you will have the same trouble as many other users here! Backup tool "osloader-1.5.6.exe" will work fine!
Flashing with jtag is not "a walk in the park", flashing via USB or SD-Card is much more easy but still(!!) dangerous.

If you can arrange yourself with a german system, you should try and let it unflashed.
A friend of mine has also a Typhoon 6500XL, it is a NEC Display based Mio168 with additional 64MB flash drive space in ROM called "\My Flash Disk" or something. The navigating software is installed inside the system Flash-ROM part mounted as a drive.

I dont know what will happen to this internal flash drive if one use a Typhoon 3500mobile ROM Image. Maybe it will stay or could disappear because the other rom image can not handle this extra flash space and will irnore it.

I would not try to reflash the device. You can not return it if you did a flash-trash...

hello, i have a mio 168 witch suddenly stopped working, when i give it a hard reset the display blinks one time with white light and no sound is played, after that the display remains black.
The charching/power led do not go one.
And the boot menu do not appear by pressing the joystick and switching the pda on.
Can i fix this with flashing with a j-tag?

Hello pietpukje,

first question is, what happened to your device.
Did you try to flash or did it really stop working from one moment to the next

If it just stoped working there could be a so called "broken ball" under one of the FBGA Chips like RAM's ROM or CPU.
Also you point out that the charging LED is not working too, this is a common problem to all Mio168 devices,
the Charging/USB connector is very fragile and can loose contact to the PCB. This could explain why there is no battery loading.
May be the battery is run empty, then the device only show a short background light flash while switching to ON.
Also please check the power supply and connection to the USB plug.

Anyway all of this problems can be fixed, some simple and others a bit more complex.

It just stopped working from one moment to the next.
The charching/usb connector has been replaced 3 months ago, i did it myself, and it worked after that replacement. i just measered the volt inside the mio and they all are 5 volts (pin 5 19 20 21 22),
the battery has 2 volt outside the pda, and without the battery the pda does nothing, even the screen blinks not.
Charching led was working before the mio stopped working.
The power supply is good, so can this be a broken ball?

I am wondering about the 2 Volt on your battery. There should be at least 3 Volt or more.
I also did a measuring on an old battery, it is still working and I got 3.42 V between the yellow and black line.

Even without battery the PDA works in normal condition.
Perhaps the internal charging logic (U33?) is damaged, so the battery can not be charged and the PDA did not detect the power plug.
Try to measure the Pins at U33, it is a Transistor type near the charging connector. You should get with battery and power plugged in
about 3.x V against GND (charging shield). If there is 0 or 1.xx V at most Pins against GND, this part may be damaged.

In this moment I dont think there is any broken ball, because the basic functions especially battery charging is not present.

there is 0 volt on all pins, do some one has the service manual from it so i can check where that the power go to before it goes to this u33.

{ at }pietpukje

take a look at this: Der_Yakumo_Delta_300_GPS_9.pdf
its german but I think the info at page 11 should help you out. more technical infos can not be found to this PDA.
if the battery itself shows only 0 Volt, its not a good sign. maybe the internal comperator-IC is damaged. try to
find out if any voltage will leave the charging connector to the PCB without battery.

{ at }jackson

if this 2 PDA are the same, means contain the same display type (e.g. NEC or Sharp) you can swap the main PCB and the display against each other to find out where the problem is. also you can swap the battery, also from NEC to Sharp and the other way arround.
to swap other components, you have to desolder them... tricky job. I think the problem will be a broken PCB, displays will at least show the background lights.

I am sorry! until now I did not try to JTAG flash anything, so I can not provide your requested file.

Hi boing001
Thanks for the warnings, sorry for the delay, but I did not buy that device
I finally bought a Yakumo Delta 300 which should arrive this week (ebay). Also in German so I'll probably try to flash it (I'll try it in German first, even though my knowledge is almost null ).
I will first backup using osloader 1.5.6
Then I'll try to reflash it from the backup first using RomUpdate utility and USB cable.
Do you know when you flash with RomUpdate Utility, which part of the ROM does it update (bootloader too?), wonder if I could damage the bootloader or not using this method.
Most of the info here on the forum is using SD card, nobody talks about USB

Thanks in advancement and I'll let you all know how did I do
