Hi !
I own a Yakumo delta 300 gps, which is the same than Mitac Mio 168.
I bought it at Link which is a german site. what I didn't realized is that the OS installed would be in german too ops
So I looked for rom updates from Yakumo or Mitac, but didn't find any ...
What I found however, is the way to backup/restore the ROM by using the followinf software Link
The main program is OSImageTool.exe, it's very simple and worked wonderfully !
Now, I need someone having the same kind of PDA, in english or french, to backup its ROM the same way and send me it.
I would be a very very very big help if someone could help me, because my PDA is really not usable (?) in german
Tanks in advance for any help !

maxyms have you tried writing the ROM back from your PC to the pocketpc? I have being trying to do so for several hours now, but I keep on getting this error from the "Programme A"

[code1]ERROR: GetDeviceData - Unspecified error

error getting devicedata[/code1]

I would really apreciate it if you or anyone else could help me resolve this problem (currently I'm afraid it might have something to do with Yakumo GPS not being an XDA).

ROM itself isn't enough. The problem is flashing the ROM. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the OSImageTool to run with Yakumo. I suppose it's ment to be used only with so called XDAs.

with XDA OS image backup your ROM into SD flash cart
source Device Memory (current rom)
Destination XDA SD card slot -

need active sync .
after that copy from CD cart rom image to hdd
p.s. on you SD cart need free space

Hy,

I have bought a PDA German, I wanted to reflash it so I read a lots of forums.

With XDA Tool mentioned you can download your Rom wich is about 32 mb.

Then wit another tool you can flash it back.

For flash it back to another soft you need an english soft, wich I do not have.

Turn off the pda with the off button on the back, hold the joystick to left or down and turn it to on.

Your pda should display a blue screen "update tool 1.1" You will need menu 1. Wince update. if you select it with the joy it will wait for the usb connection to be active. Disable the active sync and install the flasher tools usb driver. Than select the english flash in the falsher tool.

It will upload the english wince image into ram and the device will flash itself after 100% percent so do not turn it off.

If it doesent work for you then option2.

For this you will need an Eprom application like Pony soft. And an eeprom/ flasher and dissasemble the pda. It Contains an intel 28f256 type flash. Save the english one and flash it into the other.

This soft can compute checksums as well.

I used it for flashing mobiles

For beginners i suppose option 1.

you can reach me here on the forum for the flasher soft for free. But for that i wolud need an english or other language soft for my language collection So far i have german from my pda, and will receive english from another pda next week.

I already flashed my pda wit the image i sawed from it But not another language.

regards a User.

Right now I have got two mio 168 one is German OS, second English. I want to change language from German to English. I'd like to backup English ROM to SD or file and restore it on German mio. But I don't know how.
XDA tool works and store something on SD card but there is no file on it. When I put that prepared SD to mio and choose update from SD in mio's UPDATE TOOL there is only message BPB not found.

Maybe there is another way to flash mio?

I can help you, but first need to check.

Please read ENGLISH backup (WWE) from a unit with OSImageTool and send me the file somehow (I have 1G gmail account for instance).

ATM already killed a unit - only RED LED blinks on its top.
If anyone knows how to force it into bootloader mode without disassembling and flashing it with Labtool-48, please tell

This offer may sound strange but always remember that *YOU* may NOT want to kill your unit, right?

OSimageTool make no file on SD card. There is some data on Sd card but it is no file system. After inserting it to card reader or to SD slot in palmtop system want to format it. I think there is possibility to make image of that card but I don't know which software can do it.

who cares about sd card?
you have [...] button next to selection
you should SELECT a FILE, and download there (it will save to a file on your PC!!)

Some times ago I owned yacumo d300 gps. it was germ. lang. and I would like to change rom to engl. I downloaded image (it was made with xdatools) and tried to flash in boot loader mode... PDA gone down....
I have desoldered cpu to discover jtag pins. cpu is soldered back now and PDA working for this time. JTAG detects CPU and FLASH. so for this time it is possible to flash it thru JTAG, but I did not have right image (I mean "RAW" flash image) does anyone know how to convert *.nbf file to RAW image?? My be anyone can share ENGL. ROM image for yacumo delta300 gps (same devices are mitac mio168, navman pin, bluemedia pda 255) or *.nbf images for comparing. I have rom image from this yak.d300.gps.ger downloaded with BOOTBLASTER, and I can to flash just boot loader, but I cant find ROM image for flashing from SD card
My be someone have ??? plase help (

P.S.
I can share JTAG pins if anyone is interested. I mean for "hardware peoples"

I've tried a few things. The bad news is, so far, nothing works. My Mio168 is still fully chinese. The good news is, I have not done anything beyond repair.

First, with OSImagetool, I copied my chinese rom to pc.
Then I loaded the SD cared with the following three files, went into the upgrade tool v1.1 blue screen and saw the same BPB not found message three times.
1. The english rom I received from piotrscs. (Thanks a lot!)
2. The english rom with 416 bytes of the chinese rom header. It is an attempt to bypass the BPB not found error. Didn't work.
3. The old chinese rom.

Since these all gave the same error, it seems like that loading rom from the SD card might not be the right thing to do?
