Hi there!!!
I've got a Medion PNA175 which is actually a Mio138. I just compared the Specs of Mio 168 and Mio 138(Processor, Ram/Rom, GPS-Sys). They're the same except of the Screen being twisted 90 degrees. Is it possible to  flash a Mio 168-Rom into my Mio 138?
I'm asking because of the Operating System. Mine is only WinCE.NET 4.2 which is very basically.........

If so, someone has a Mio-Original German Rom-File for me which contains WindowsMobile 2003? Please....send me a PM

Regards,

Hi again. I'm trying to upgrade my Mio 138 with a Mio 168Rom.
At first I did a Rom-Dump with OS-Loader 1.5.6 and afterwards created the 32MB-File aout of those parts.
At next I switched the PNA off by the switch. Holding the Button "Down" I switched it on again. A blue screen appears and I'm able to choose between the following:

0=WinCE Image(USB)
1=WinCE Image(SD/MMC)
2=UBoot Image(USB)
3=UBoot Image(SD/MMC)
4=CE+UT Image(USB)
5=CE+UT Image(SD/MMC)
6=RAM Test

I start the Rom-Upgrade-Wizard fromMitac (R/D v.0.1) and click next until I should connect the USB-Cable. Done so I shall activate USB on the PDA (I think 0 from the Menu should be right). The PDA now waits for 90 Seconds for getting Data from the USB-Port.
On the PC I click next to start the Transfer. Then I get Connection Errors. The USB-Connection in ActiveSync is deactivated.
I've got the file WinCEimage.bin in the same Folder like RomUpdate_RD_R01.exe.

What shall I do? Or is there a easier way to upgrade to that Rom?

HM. Now I managed to write my backup back to the PDA by using the Option 1. Unforunately, the other images (from the Mio 16 won't work. I'm getting the Message
"Invalid file Flag - Any Key to continue"
Somebody knows, for what is checked before updating? CRC? Maybe its possible to override that

I'm wondering if theres a possibility to write the Image Back to the device without using the integrated UpdateTool. I tried it with XDA-Tools(with Programme A started by OSimageTool).
But I'm always getting a connection error via USB. Reading the Rom out of te Device is possible, but writing it back results in connection Error #11. Maybe that's a problem with my Desktop-PC...Tomorrow I'll be able to try that on another machine.
Second thing: OSImageTool needs *.nb1-Files, but the Roms are always in the bin-format. Somebody knows how to convert this?

Can I flash the Mio168 2003SE rom file on my Yakumo Delta 300GPS?
If not, does someone have the english 2003SE ROM file for the Delta 300GPS?

[edit]
Allready figured it out, it works. I was in a destructive mood so I just went ahead and tried it
Allso updated the GPS firmware to the latest firmware. Don't know exactly what changed, but I do get the feeling that I get a faster fix. I had the 2.12.09 version, now I have the 2.13 version.
The production date of the unit is 2004.07, it had the 1.1 firmware loader.

Hi

My Yakumo delta 300 Update bad flash file. ROM damages.
PC to PDA conected  4 resistor cable (from here http://openwince.sourceforge.net/jtag/iPAQ-3600/
).  I dont connect the nTRST, it works too, or it must be conected with Resistor on Vcc? Software: JFlash_MM
Problem: Flash memory type incorrect. "connot open input file: Flash_1_2_32"
Does somebody know where the problem is?
fwd. thanks

Yakumo delta 300 ROM damages answer:

Download: JflashMM 5.01.007 + DBPXA255.dat
(http://www.intel.com/design/pca/applicationsprocessors/swsup/JFlashMM.htm)
dbpxa255.dat chage 121 line from 32 to 16
Change fildename: Flash_8810_1_16.dat to Flash_8816_2_16.dat
cmd promp: JFlashmm.exe dbpxa255.dat *.bin p
*= flash filename
Wait for ........................for a long time

At a quick pace step:
 -Flash written 8% stop (Ctrl+C)
 -The full flash to WinCEIMG.bin and copy into a FAT formatted SD-Card
 -Turn off the pda with the off button on the back, hold the joystick to left or down and turn it to on.
 -WinCE SD flash update

4 resistor cable + Mio 168 Jtag pin (nTRST no connect):

(Fund: mtekk Forums + http://openwince.sourceforge.net/jtag/iPAQ-3600/ )
(Sorry, no speaking English! Am i Hungarian. )

My genuine Mio 168 (P/N 242145100004 R00 CM-2 K, manufactured 08.2004, S/N QS1E4801XXX, with NEC display) is based on 168WWER22 ROM. I have downloaded 168WWER27 ROM from http://home.tiscali.be/lataupe/
I used SD 1Gb FAT16 card.
To enter to the bootloader menu, i pressed and pushed joystick down. Pushing joystick to the left does not work in my bootloader. It is needed to off and on device, reset button just reboot Windows.
Bootloader v1.1 has recognised ROM image and successfully flashed in 8 minutes. I turned-off turned-on device and screen is white and with 1sec.delay black.
Bootloader did not flashed ROM correctly and devide was bricked.
I have used JTAG to upload first 256KB and last 256Kb (from 0x1FC0000) by intel jflash utility. jtag-tools recognises CPU PXA255, but do not recognises flash chip
First, i have fully ereased flash. jflash have unlocked every block in the flash and i successfully flashed first and last 256Kb in program and verify mode ("PV").

Than i boot PDA in bootloader mode and have uploaded backup firmware using USB-cable.
Some times afer i have uploaded 168WWER22D firmware by USB-cable. In this firmware pushing joystick to the left allow to enter into bootloader menu. It is important: it allows to work in blind mode (if screen does not work), because pushing joystick down does not allow to choose first item in the menu.
Working on 168WWER22D, i have successfully uploaded 168WWER27 by USB.

Conclusions:
1) USB is the preffered way to upload firmware
2) 168WWER27 works correctly on Mitac Mio 168 with NEC display
3) flashing (using SD-card) without any error message could damage device anyway
4) if choose "reset" item in the bootloader menu, it reboots device, but screen lamp and sound do not work. It is needed to turn-off turn-on device. It is a bug
5) in 168WWER27 sound noise bug fixed. Mitac released patch dll for this bug (the only patch in Mitac history), but this patch overloading CPU. In 168WWER27 screen more "lighter". It is a junk - screen contrast very bad, it just soft gamma correction.
6) variable resistor in on the board can be ajusted to lower screen twinkling (it seems, due to LCD refresh and lamp resonanse). Twinkling can be seen in gray grid images (for example, scroll bar).

Probably, some firmwares has broken bootloader. May be something wrong in the flashing algorythm. For example, bootloader erases block, but if block is locked it did not erased, than bootloader unlock block and flash it. But, because block did not erased, flashing did not set "1" bits to "0" and flashing put garbage to the flash. If bootloader sections the same (like in 168****22 and 168****22D see first and last 256kb using HEX-editor) device can enter to the bootloader menu, if bootloader sections is relocated (in 168****27 bootloader at the begining of the flash) device is bricked.
May be some bootloaders could not work correctly with small blocks at hte begining of flash. In my expericense, this small blocks is terrible for programmers and flash developers. In 99% it make errors in it's products.
But i did not read flash through JTAG after bricking, because jflash has no such ability; jtag-connector is very small and difficult in using and can not investigate reason.
