thanks for all these details and your offer Sascha. I told Bluemedia that they do not treat their customers right by refusing to provide the rom since the customer has already paid for it. Maybe they try to make more money from reflashing/repairing the PDAs themselves. Waiting for your news....

Take care,
George

Hello everybody. Tried to read all 18 pages but it's really hard. Too many information

So, I'll try to figure all my questions.
I have Yakumo delta 300 gps. It was in german, I've found english firmware and successfully updated it. Now I have Windows Mobile 2003.

1. Can I find anywhere WM2003 SE in english?
2. Does anybody have yakumo with installed WM 5? Is this possible to install WM 5 to this device?
3. In emule I've found this one:
ed2k://|file|Windows%20Mobile%202005%20For%20Pocket%20Pc%20Yakumo.zip|33806530|1944E109CE62F03C380D26AD0DCFB510|h=C4VPEWL3K3WDGXTH5KGWVRJGPWUL7LAM|/

Downloaded, unpacked, tried to install and got nothing.

Maybe somebody will download and try to install?

hi petr0vich{ at }ua,

question: what display is in your unit?
reset button near the headphone connector: NEC display (Upgrade Tool 1.1, 0.5, 0.2)
reset button below the record key: SHARP display (Upgrade Tool only 2.1)
thsi is really important because the PDA will only work with a matching image file.
flashing the wrong image, the display will turn to white and you have to reflash "blindly".

english 2003SE image for NEC units would be:
168WWER27_______PAK14235_UT0.5_N_WinCEIMG.bin

I found no image for Sharp display unit containing 2003SE, perhaps there is none available.

PS: WM2003SE is not necessary for PDA because its not faster and provides only additional
functions for Bluetooth and GSM. also the 2003 (not SE) is faster in booting and executing
programs. I can tell this because I have one PDA with 2003SE and another one with 2003.
also reflashed the SE unit to 2003 because it was too slow and there was no improvement
of any case.
but this is only my personal opinion!

Hi George,

I know this trouble by myself. a friend erased accidentally the ROM in his MyGuide4000 PNA and I tried to
get the original ROM from Typhoon/Anubis in germany.
They told me the ONLY WAY to fix it, is to send the device in the repair service. I was not very happy to
hear this because in the PNA the Upgrade Tool is not erased and still working! So a reflash could be done
by myself or anybody else. They also told me that due to license reasons the image could not be send
out... big nonsense because like you said the customers did already paid for it.

I guess this is Microsoft-thinking: holding dumb the users and only try to earn more money.
but lets see what will come out of this

PS: http://dict.leo.org/ is my best friend in typing english *gg*

Reset button is between record key and headphone connector. But it's closer to headphone connector. So, i thinks it's NEC.

But after your explanation about difference between 2003 fe and se I think i won't reflash it to SE.

And what about WM2005 ? Is it available for this device?

Thanks.

yes it should be the NEC version because Sharp has the reset hole very close to the record button.
afaik there is no WM2005 available neither planed for Mio168.

I am also very satisfied with the "older" WM2003, all programs are working fine and the system
is stabile. I see no reason to reflash to anything else but Linux

I wish I had found this forum before I tried to upgrade to WinCE SE since WinCE FE was just fine... I just thought SE would be better but ..sometimes when you want all you loose all ...anyways Im getting used to the German windows now

Thank you for your reply, Dennis.

Yes, enough memory...
The error message is:
Contents of virtual address and physical address don't match. Ύx80000000] =0xA0000000  Ύx48000000] =0xE3A000D3
After that:
An error occured while saving 0x00400000 bytes of flash at address 0x00000000 to file flash_00000000.bin.
Do you wish to continue?

It saves the first 4MB with no contents, then later continues with the 2nd chunk and this is 4MB also 3rd etc. So, only the 1st chunk of 4MB is a mismatch in addressing.

Seems that OSLoader cannot handle the 32MB Rom layout in the MiO339.

If any other safe way to save this Rom, is also ok for me.
Just was happy with OSLoader, because it works 100%

Sorry for previous message! My mistake!I didn't include the original message!

Hi all
I have used an English rom W2003se_MIO168_168WWER27.rar to upgrade my MIO 168 from French to English
After the upgrade was finished I did hard reset and I see only a white screen
I don't hear any "bing" when the device starts

I made a backup before upgrading but I don't know how to install it

Please help to get my device back

Thanks

this happens to other users too, because there are 2 different hardware versions of the Mio168 (aka Typhoon 3500, Bluemedia, Yakumo Delta 300, Medion 95000, etc.).
to restore the device you have to know the display hardware inside the PDA. the best sign is the reset key position:
reset key left low, near the headphone connector = NEC Display
reset key left up, very close to the record key = Sharp Display
If the wrong image is flashed, the display appears white at both devices! So be careful in flashing this units!

to reinstall the backup image it has to be named "winceimg.bin" and placed in the root of the sd-card.
please reformat the sd-card with fat16 in windows and only load the image file up.
switch off the PDA (backside hardware switch), hold down (push/press) the joystick (5th-way on navigation key) and switch
the unit back on. try to release the joystick-key as soon as possible after switching to "on".
after this the so called Upgrade Tool should appear, in your case also in white. the cursor is default set to "0=WinCE Image (USB)"
and you have to move down to "1=WinCE Image (SD/MMC)" to restore from sd-card.
so just press once the joystick way down to reach the menu point "1...". after this and with inserted sd-card you may start
the flash proc. with another pushing the joystick 5th-way key. (to make sure it will work, press the joystick again, it will not interrupt flashing at all)
PLEASE WAIT ABOUT 7 MINUTES! flashing will take at least 5 minutes!

after this you have to hardreset the device (switching off-on) and if all was done the device should work again.

please read the 2nd part of my prev. posting.

{ at }Purple
all Mio168 firmwares can use the COM2 serial port, this is the GPS communication port. you also need some
navigation software like Falk, TomTom, Navigon or something else to read the COM2 GPS data.
IMPORTANT IS: what display you have inside the unit. also please read my prev. posting.

Thanks for your help
In fact I have tried several times to do exactly what you said
after doing hard reset I still have the white screen again

normally the backup file is "ROM_Image.rom"
I renamed the file to "winceimg.bin"

it is possible that the boot of my device is damaged ?

thanks again

Yes maybe the system can not start anything, not even the bootloader.
this is bad but still fixable by JTAG flashing the device. therefor the pda has to be disassembled, connect 5 wires to the CPU (JTAG interface) and reflashing the bootloader.
until now I did not do this by myself, just got this info out of this forum and connected the wires to a dead Mio168 PCB.
more tricks I can not provide, maybe someone else here...?

Sascha

Hi Everybody,fficeffice" />

Me and my son have two MIO339 PDAs. One works fine with a ROM version AFWWER22, but another with a ROM version AFWWER16 turns off backlight after a minute when using the navigation.

I tried everything, my latest and only idea to upgrade the ROM to the same AFWWER22.

THE BIGGEST PROBÉEM - HOW?

Pls let me know if you managed to find out it.

Regards,

Etele
