Hi,
I am absolutely new here and would be pleased to get any sort of support.
Last week I ended up in the pool , with my phone and TomTom. After leaving both in a dry spot near the heater for a few days the phone is working fine again.
However, I have some trouble with the TomTom. It works fine, but won't talk to me anymore. Whenever it is supposed to say something there is only a very high tone coming out of the speakers.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Would I just need a new speaker or a complete new unit?
I am looking forward for any sort of support.
Cheers, Muchito |

Sorry mate, but that's like asking "How long is a piece of string". The fact that both units are working at all does not guarantee they will continue to do so because you may not have pulled the battery immediately which can have a long term effect. If you have a search of the site you'll find a few stories about various hardware going in the water and the best way to recover the device. Personally, I would strip down both devices and ensure there is no water or chlorine residue using Isoprophyl Alcohol. If you don't feel up to that, send them for an early repair because the longer you leave it the more damage can be done. |

Look here for my articles and hardware & software that I recommend.
The Doomsday Clock - It's five minutes to midnight - think about it... do something about it!
Psion II CM -> Psion II XP -> Psion II LZ -> Psion 3 -> Psion 5 -> O2 Xda II -> O2 Xda IIi -> Psion 5 -> O2 Xda II + Nokia 3310 -> Dell Inspiron 9400 running Ubuntu + Nokia 6234 (no more Windows Mobile for me!)
My new device is Linux based and it doesn't include a camera, a phone or an MS operating system! Oh, and I also have a Topfield PVRt, a TomTom ONE and a Wii - all of which also use nice, stable Linux... luxury! |

Hi mtb,
Thanks for the reply.
I did strip the GPS unit and took the plug for the battery off while drying it. Also I did try to clean it as good as possible, however, didn't use isoprophyl alcohol for it.
I will search the site for more stories about it...

| The alcohol helps displace the water trapped between components, feel free to almost drown the thing. You can get the stuff from Dick Smith's and similar. |
