the continuing debate as to whether telstra will be able to deliver dsl to the population of australia will go on forever. Forget telstra. There are technologies out there ready to be deployed that offer a far greater coverage with applications that leave Telstra dsl in the dark. A 10 kilometer radius to start with. No line of site, Voice, vpn, ip multicasting, 2.5 Mbps, video streaming to name a few. Why are these not being deployed? The australian Communications Authority will not release spectrum to cover particular geographical locations. instead, they are once again intimating that they will auction off spectrum licence that will cover the whole of the state. This means that the "big boys" will purchase this spectrum and sit on it while the smaller players with superior technology will have the hardware but no place to deploy as a result of the cost of spectrum to deliver it. If you want to voice your opinion find you local parliamentary member or go to the aca website where they are asking for comment. http://www.aca.gov.au/aca_home/issues_for_comment/index.htm
