I previously reported on Brighthand's coverage of the iPAQ h6000 series Pocket PC Phone being found in a wireless carrier's support database. Their sources also reported that this information contained a picture of the device, showing how to perform a soft-reset. It now seems that that this images has surfaced, on two separate sites.
[UPDATE: 15/4/2004 It now seems clear that the original source of this image is Brighthand and that credit for the picture belongs to them.]
Bargain PDA and Smartfone.net have both published the photo, and it seems as though they both obtained it independently, perhaps from the same source. Interestingly, this is where their information differs, with each reporting different release dates.
Bargain PDA
"BargainPDA.com was sent a picture by an anonymous source that has access to some manuals that exist for the HP iPAQ 6300. The picture shows how to perform a reset on the device... The iPaq 6300 will have a reset button on the lower left-hand side apparently... Sources say we should see this mysterious device by the end of the month and that it should include every wireless option available: quad band GSM/GPRS, Bluetooth and 802.11b (WiFi)."
Smartfone.net
"Smartfone.net was the first to premier the first image and detail specifications of the long awaited iPaq h6300 to the world back in 01-20-2004. Here is another image of the iPaq h6300 getting a soft-reset. We've gotten confirmation today that the release date is going to be August 4, 2004 ."
In recent times, the device has also been rumoured to be called the iPAQ 6000, iPAQ-G, and iPAQ 6700. It seems clear that the device rumoured is the same in each case, but that the name may not as yet be finalized. The emergence - for a short time - of the iPAQ 6000 Serials Support Page on hp's own site makes it clear which way hp is leaning.
I now present - courtesy of Smartfone.net and Pocket PC Italia - the previous two leaked images of the device, for your comparison. As can be seen, all have significant similarities - yet also sufficient differences to indicate that the past two images were most likely of pre-production mockups. Presumably the new image shows a device much closer to completion - but naturally enough, we can only wait and see!
